ANZAM PD Session – 21/10/26 – Networking 101

Networking 101 Session

If you attend only one session at ANZAM this year, make it the Networking 101 session led by Professor Kevin Lowe, Professor Kerry Brown and Virangi Mendis (2025 ANZAM Doctoral representative). Together, they bring an extraordinary depth of experience and intellectual firepower that is rarely found in a single room.

Professor Lowe is a globally recognised leader in leadership research at the University of Sydney Business School, a former President of ANZAM, serving on ten editorial boards and recognised with multiple Best Paper of the Year Awards, the Article of the Decade Award from the Journal of International Business Studies, and a prestigious Emerald Citation of Excellence. His scholarship has been cited over 21,000 times, reflecting decades of transformative contributions to leadership and cross-cultural management.

Professor Brown, meanwhile, has published five books and over 120 journal articles, and has been awarded nine Australian Research Council Linkage Grants — a record that speaks to both the rigour and real-world relevance of her work. A former President of ANZAM and a 2024 Aspire Award winner, she is widely regarded as a significant voice bridging industry and academia. Both scholars are deeply embedded in the life of the academy — serving on boards, mentoring emerging researchers, and shaping the conversations that matter most in management today. Their willingness to share hard-won wisdom on networking – an often underestimated career skill – makes this session an unmissable opportunity for anyone serious about building a meaningful academic career.

Ms Virangi Mendis is a Graduate Researcher Teaching Fellow at Deakin University and the ANZAM Doctoral Representative 2025. She is a PhD candidate in Management at Deakin University and has worked there for the past 2 years in teaching and research roles.
