Call for papers – special issue Small Enterprise Research on
‘The Promise and Pitfalls of AI Adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)’
Small Enterprise Research is the official journal of the Small Enterprise Association of Australia and New Zealand Ltd (SEAANZ), a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1987 to promote links between academics, practitioners and policymakers that are active in the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) ecosystem.
This special issue calls for empirical studies (e.g. rich case studies, interview data, social media analysis, survey and quantitative studies, among others) that cover the SME practitioner point of view in the key areas of 1) Potential of AI for small businesses, 2) Challenges of AI for SMEs, and 3) Dark side and risks of AI for SMEs. Abstract submission: We offer the option of abstracts to be submitted to ensure that submissions are aligned with the special issue. While not compulsory, we highly recommend authors avail themselves of this opportunity. Abstracts should be submitted by the abstract deadline to t.r.jurado@massey.ac.nz.

Paper submission: Full papers can be submitted from 30 November 2025 until 31 March 2026
Expected publication date: Late 2026
