The original idea for a special interest group in Operations Management (OM) was discussed over 10 years ago when the ANZAM Annual Conference was held in Wollongong.  At that time, we came to realise that there had been no specific track on OM at the annual ANZAM conferences and very few OM academics attended the conference. There was little opportunity for OM academics to meet locally to share ideas and develop collaborative research projects.

With support from ANZAM, we held the First ANZAM Operations Management Symposium in Melbourne in June 2003 and this event has been held annually each year attracting between 45 and 50 delegates, including many doctoral students and a number of participants from industry.

We broadened our network to include supply chain management and services management two years ago and an internationally recognised keynote speaker is invited each year to the symposium, who also visits one or two local institutions during his/her visit to Australia.  Dates and venue for the 14th ANZAM Operations, Supply Chain and Services Management Symposium will be announced soon.

We are already a well established group.  Each year we have witnessed a significant increase in the quality of the papers being presented which are fully refereed and published in proceedings. We have also witnessed research collaboration amongst the many academics attending the symposium from different institutions.
